Run by the American Bar Association.  This site is not prison focused per se, but covers all aspects of children and the law.  Good resource for child advocacy.

Safeguarding Children of Arrested Parents
From the International Association of Chiefs of Police.  This 38 page PDF gives advice to police departments on how to safeguard children during the process.

Annie E Casey Foundation

The Annie E. Casey Foundation is devoted to developing a brighter future for millions of children at risk of poor educational, economic, social and health outcomes.   There are many studies and articles pertaining to incarceration. The easiest way to find information is to enter keywords into their search box.

Prisoners with Children
Committed to social change through education, public policy changes, legal advocacy and grass roots organizing.  Most information is based on California law, but good general information as well.

Project WHAT? (“We’re Here and Talking”)
A training program staffed by youth that raises awareness about the effects of parental incarceration on children, with the long-term goal of improving services and policies that affect these children.

National Council on Crime and Delinquency
A national group covering most aspects of social justice including prisons and families of the incarcerated. You’ll need to dig.

Domestic Violence and Abuse Help Guide

The Jailhouse Lawyer’s Handbook

This Handbook is a resource for prisoners who wish to file a federal lawsuit addressing poor conditions in prison or abuse by prison staff. It also contains limited general information about the American legal system.
