New Info on the Federal System

Typical Federal System PrisonNew Info on the Federal System

At a recent LEAF meeting a woman approached and said the LEAF website has lots of good information, but nothing for a family with a loved one in the Federal System.   She was right!   With the help of another LEAF family member dealing with the Federal system, (and wants to remain anonymous,) we began correcting this error.

On the surface there doesn’t seem to be much difference between the State and Federal systems.  But as the details came to light it seems like almost everything is different.  The drive to visit is longer.  The visiting hours are fewer.  Phone calls more expensive.  The commissary account gets funded differently.  This list can go on.

Our new webpage on the Federal system highlights the key items, but unfortunately there are many difference from prison to prison that are important.  The new page will give you some insight, but the best policy is to check the webpage of the individual prison.  To make that task easier we have included links to the “local” federal prisons on the same page.

I wish I caught the women’s name who spoke up so I could thank her.  The LEAF Ministry website exists for families of the incarcerated and is run by volunteers.  At times we need a push and sometimes we just don’t see the big information holes.  Please don’t be shy!   If there’s content you think should be on our website or if you want to share something of hope with others, let us know.
